Activism Committee Picks Congressional Districts for 2018 Focus

At its January 19th meeting, the Four Freedoms Democratic Club’s Activism Committee set a preliminary agenda for the year by identifying two congressional districts to focus the club’s energy and resources in the 2018 midterm elections.

The committee determined that congressional districts NY-19, served by Congressman John Faso (R), and NJ-11, served by Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R), will be the first areas of focus for the club’s activism efforts. As the progressive wave continues to surge across the country, the FFDC sees an opportunity to flip these Republican held seats to Democratic control. Both congressional members have failed to protect the interests of their districts by supporting the Republican congressional leadership and supporting their numerous efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The FFDC plans to support the campaigns of the Democratic candidates that will oppose these incumbents. The FFDC also plans to share information within these communities about how the current representatives have supported policies that would prevent the constituents from obtaining affordable healthcare and would worsen the quality of life within the district. Our club’s members will work alongside our fellow Democrats in the clubs within these districts to coordinate on the ground and door-to-door grass roots advocacy efforts.

Along with our decision to focus on these two districts, the Activism Committee elected two new co-chairs to lead our 2018 advocacy efforts. Kim Moscaritolo, our current District Leader and senior member of the FFDC, will co-chair the committee with new member Matthew LoCastro. We are looking forward to a successful 2018 and hope that you will join us!
