The Club voted to endorse Zephyr Teachout in the Democratic Primary for New York State Attorney General, after hearing from candidates at a forum co-hosted by the Club.
"I am truly honored to receive the endorsement from Four Freedoms Democratic Club," Ms. Teachout said. "They have been phenomenal political advocates on a grassroots level. I am thrilled to have them join me in this fight for justice, from tackling the lawlessness of the Trump administration, to leading the fight to end mass incarceration."
On Wednesday, July 11th, the FFDC, the Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club, Ansonia Independent Democrats and seven other Manhattan clubs hosted a forum at the New York New Church at which members heard from Teachout and two other candidates: attorney and former political aide Leecia Eve and New York City Public Advocate Letitia James. A fourth candidate, U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, was unable to make the event due to votes in Washington.
Immediately following the forum, FFDC members caucused to discuss endorsement – a discussion that focused on which candidate would most vigorously pursue corruption in government and business, continuing the tradition of activist New York attorneys general. FFDC joins Three Parks Independent Democrats in endorsing Teachout, who won a majority of FFDC members’ first choices.
“Four Freedoms was founded four years ago to be a different kind of Democratic club for the 76th Assembly District, and it’s our strong work for candidates – in addition to our focus on keeping members educated and engaged on the issues most affecting their lives – that really set us apart,” said Kim Moscaritolo, 76th AD District Leader. “While in this race, we won’t be able to gather the thousands of nominating-petition signatures we typically get our endorsed candidates, Zephyr Teachout will have our support in mail, in literature and with volunteers on the ground when it counts.” (The state petitioning period ended Thursday July 12th.)
