FFDC Statement on ICE Shooting in NYC

“The Four Freedoms Democratic Club stands with immigrant communities and all New Yorkers facing similar threats from this administration’s deadly and unconstitutional tactics. We join advocates, lawmakers, and our neighbors in demanding a thorough, independent investigation, including releasing body camera footage. There must be clear accountability for the ICE agents who used excessive force. But most importantly, we must abolish ICE.”

After a New Yorker was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officer today in Marble Hill, Jerry Ferguson, President of the Four Freedoms Democratic Club, released the following statement:

“ICE has once again proven that their presence and violent tactics only make our communities less safe for everyone. Not only is a fellow New Yorker hospitalized after being shot by an ICE agent, but a 5-year-old child is traumatized.

“This is absolutely unacceptable. Four Freedoms Democratic Club has led community efforts to ensure our neighbors know their rights when confronted by agents; we’ve organized rapid response trainings, and continue to provide updated information whenever possible. But it is unfortunately not enough to keep our community safe from this lawless group that is sanctioned by the President of the United States, paid for by our tax dollars, and is now the most well-funded law enforcement agency in US history.
