Four Freedoms Endorses Kathryn Garcia

On Thursday May 20th Four Freedoms Democratic Club voted overwhelmingly to rescind our endorsement of Scott Stringer and endorse Kathryn Garcia for Mayor of New York City.

"I'm honored to have the support of the Four Freedoms Democratic Club,” said Ms. Garcia. “The members of the club are doing important work to make our city a healthier, greener and more livable city for everyone. I look forward to working with them throughout the campaign and as the next mayor of New York City."

“We are so excited to move forward to help elect the next mayor of New York City, Kathryn Garcia,” said Club President Jerry Ferguson.  “Kathryn Garcia has the smarts, institutional knowledge and big ideas to transform the big apple into the city we know it can be. Working successfully in so many parts of city government is incredibly difficult, but Kathryn Garcia has shown throughout her career how to make government work for all New Yorkers.  In these times of declining trust in everything and so many big challenges facing the city we need a government that improves people's lives and brings them together.”

It is hard to find two mayors more different than Michael Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio, but both knew to turn to her when there was a crisis in the city.  In these times of declining trust in everything and so many big challenges facing the city we need a government that improves people's lives and brings them together.  That's why the Four Freedoms Democratic Club joined clubs and organizations across the city are endorsing her every day.  Kathryn Garcia is the smartest and best qualified person to run for mayor in a crowded and talented field and we are excited to make our mark campaigning for her at our series of in-person canvasses and virtual phone banks.  If you would like to join us in campaigning for our endorsed candidates click here!

The Club has never rescinded an endorsement before and the decision to do so was very difficult. As a Club, we can be proud of all of our members that acted thoughtfully and respectfully towards each other and the difficult decision we made.

“We are especially honored by the people who say that listening to the stories and arguments presented during the meeting changed their mind and how they thought about allegations,” said Club Communications Secretary Jordan Stein. “When we all listen to each other good things happen.  None of this would be possible without our amazing membership and we want to thank each and every person who came to the meeting and contributed to making it such a success.”

The NY Post wrote an article about our decision withdraw the endorsement of Mr. Stringer and endorse Mr. Garcia.
