The Democratic Tea Party is Here.
And it starts in New York City.

One year ago today New York City held its Democratic Mayoral primary in the sweltering heat. Temperatures had risen to the high 90’s, and the air sat as thick as the political tension. This did not stop voters across all five boroughs. Out of the 1.1 million votes cast, approximately 646,000 voters braved the heat wave on election day in order to cast their ballot. Candidates and constituents alike braced themselves for a long week of tabulations due to Ranked Choice voting. But that didn’t happen. Within an hour of tabulations Zohran Mamdani was projected to become the Democratic nominee, in November he won the election, and yesterday, almost a year to the date Zohran won the Democratic nominee, all three of his endorsements won their primaries.
This is a movement, not a moment within the Democratic Party, and Zohran Mamdani is its kingmaker.
Two prominent Democratic incumbents were felled by Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier, and the progressive heir apparent for NY-07 was defeated by Claire Valdez in large part from the Commie Corridor. The establishment has been caught off guard before. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s ousting of Joe Crawley was considered at the time to be one of the biggest upsets electorally. Her push for the Green New Deal and Medicare for All has inched the party further away from its current centrist position. Within a year of Zohran’s rise however, the Democratic Party has moved further to the left at a rate that is akin to Bernie Sander’s Presidential run in 2016. What’s shocking is we’re seeing the same ripple effects but from a local election.
The Democratic Tea Party is a complete rejection of the Democratic establishment’s handling of the genocide in Gaza.
It is a rebuke of incremental change in the face of multiplying inequities.
It is a pouring into the void of leadership from both House Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
If Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s rise within the Democratic party was meteoric, Zohran Mamdani’s is Ragnarök incarnate. The Democratic Tea Party is here, and it will leave no establishment on board.
