After a grueling election season, the FFDC's slate of candidates emerged mostly victorious in the Democratic Party Primary Elections on September 12th.
Kim Moscaritolo won reelection as Female District Leader for District 76 Part B, with over 60% of the vote, and Ben Wetzler was elected Male District Leader for District 76 Part A by a similarly large margin over a long-term incumbent. In addition, the club will be sending five delegates and three alternate delegates to the Judicial Convention. The delegates are Susan Hochberg, Arlene Kayatt, Abbye Lawrence, Joan Roberts and Elana Schwartz, and the alternates are Nancy Lang, Matt Lombardi and Esther Yang.
Our endorsed candidates for public office swamped the field: City Council member Ben Kallos and Public Advocate Letitia James were both renominated with over 75% of the vote, and Keith Powers won the Democratic nomination for Dan Garodnick's City Council seat with 41%, around 20% more than his closest competitor. We congratulate all of the winners.
Unfortunately, Adam Roberts, our inspiring incumbent Male District Leader for District 76 Part B, lost his reelection campaign. Few people have done more to make the Manhattan Democratic Party more transparent and progressive over the past two years; the County party lost a good official with this result. In addition, club stalwart Esther Yang was not successful in her race to become Female District Leader for District 76 Part A. We hope Adam and Esther will continue to play big roles in the club for years to come, and we thank both of them, and their supporters, for their dedication to our club and our party.
