FFDC endorses Kim Moscaritolo for City Council District 5

The FFDC, the largest and most active Democratic Club in Council District 5, has voted to endorse Kim Moscaritolo for New York City Council in the race to fill the open seat in District 5.

The Club endorsed Ms. Moscaritolo on the evening of Thursday December 17th, after conducting a forum attended by over 120 members of the community, where all candidates were invited to present their vision for the District.

"I am thrilled to receive the Four Freedoms Democratic Club endorsement,” said Ms. Moscaritolo. “Since its founding, Four Freedoms has been a beacon of reform and activism on the Upper East Side, and I look forward to working with the Club on our shared vision of fairness, justice and inclusivity."

“We heard from excellent candidates at our forum,” said Club President Jerry Ferguson.  “Kim earned our support above the rest because we have seen for years how intimately committed she is to improving our neighborhood and we know her as a Progressive who gets things done.”

Since 2015, Ms. Moscaritolo has served the 76th Assembly District (made up of parts of the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island) as a Democratic District Leader. She has championed reform, leading a movement to ban paid lobbyists from party leadership. She recruited dozens of local activists to run for County Committee, the most local elected position in New York. In 2019, she founded Yorkville Buy Local, an advocacy group focused on promoting and protecting local small businesses. She stood up to the gun lobby while working with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and worked to protect our environment as a founding board member of the White Roof Project.

Ms. Moscaritolo grew up in Florida, the daughter of a Cuban refugee, and started her career as a video journalist for CNN. For over a decade, while continuing to work in the media, she has devoted considerable energy to organizing and political activism. As the president of Manhattan Young Dems, she organized Democrats to knock doors for candidates who needed support. She helped found the Four Freedoms Democratic Club, which has become a Progressive force for reform.
